The Ultimate Montrose Spa and Pool Build

A Masterpiece in Curves

Nestled in the lush, leafy foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Montrose has long been a suburb defined by its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere.

Recently, Sunsetter Pools had the privilege of enhancing a local residence with a project that redefines backyard luxury.
This Montrose Spa and Pool Build isn’t just a place to swim; it is a thoughtfully designed aquatic retreat designed to harmonise with the home’s architecture while providing a resort-grade experience for the homeowners.
From the initial design phase to the final tile placement, the goal was clear: create a space that balances soft, organic shapes with high-end, modern functionality.

The Beauty of the Curve

In a world often dominated by sharp angles and rectangular designs, this project stands out through its use of fluid geometry. The primary swimming pool features a sophisticated oval shape, elegantly curved at both ends to create a soft, inviting aesthetic. This choice of shape serves a dual purpose—it offers a generous swimming area while naturally drawing the eye toward the water’s center.
To complement this fluid design, the centerpiece of the build is a round, raised featured spa. Integrated seamlessly into the pool’s footprint, the spa features a stunning overflow that spills gently into the main pool, creating both a visual waterfall effect and the soothing sound of moving water.

Unmatched Artistry in Tiling

The spa is undoubtedly the “crown jewel” of this build. It is finished in exquisite Glass Bisazza 20mm tiles, known globally for their brilliance and durability. The mosaic work catches the light at every angle, shimmering beneath the water’s surface.
Inside, the spa is designed for social connection. It features a multi-stepped interior, allowing a group of people to sit at varying depths and enjoy the strategically placed spa jets. Understanding that Victorian weather can be unpredictable, Sunsetter Pools installed dedicated gas heating for the spa. This ensures that even in the heart of a Montrose winter, the spa remains a toasty sanctuary for year-round use.

High-End Features and Functionality

A luxury pool must perform as beautifully as it looks. For this Montrose Spa and Pool Build, the homeowners opted for a suite of “best-in-class” technologies to ensure the pool is as low-maintenance as possible.
• Paramount PV3 In-Floor Cleaning: Gone are the days of manual vacuuming or unsightly robot cleaners. The PV3 system works silently in the background, using rotating nozzles to sweep debris toward a dedicated drain, keeping the water crystal clear 24/7.
• Climate Control: While the spa utilizes gas for rapid heating, the main pool is equipped with Electric Heating, providing an energy-efficient way to maintain the perfect swimming temperature throughout the extended summer season.
• The Beach Area: One of the most popular design elements is the integrated “beach area.” This shallow lounging zone is perfect for sunbathing in the water or for younger children to play safely.
• Total Perimeter Seating: Surrounding the pool’s circumference is an easy-step-in seated level, allowing swimmers to rest and converse anywhere in the pool without needing to head back to a traditional ladder or step.
The pool’s interior is finished with 48mm ceramic mosaics sourced from The Pool Tile Company. These larger-format mosaics provide a smooth, premium feel underfoot and a deep, captivating blue hue that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding landscape.

Seamless Integration: Pool Decking and Paving

Transitioning from the water to the home required a custom approach to hardscaping. Sunsetter Pools installed custom wood decking at the spa exit, providing a warm, slip-resistant surface that leads directly into the home’s main outdoor entertaining area.
The pool’s coping and surrounding patio are a feat of precision. To match the oval shape of the pool, custom curved laser-cut pavers were used.

A sophisticated palette of natural pale sand and light grey was selected to brighten the space and stay cool under the Australian sun.

These pavers echo the organic curves of the pool, ensuring there are no harsh edges in the design.

Privacy Without Compromise

The Fencing
Safety and aesthetics go hand-in-hand in this build. To secure the area while maintaining the stunning views of the Montrose grounds, a dual-fencing strategy was employed:
1. Frameless Glass Fencing: Used in the primary sightlines to provide an uninterrupted view of the water from the home and garden. It creates an “invisible” barrier that makes the space feel expansive.
2. Architectural Black Steel Fencing: For areas requiring more defined boundaries and semi-privacy, Sunsetter Pools installed a series of black vertical poles. This stylish solution features no horizontal bracing, offering a sleek, minimalist look that requires almost zero maintenance and perfectly frames the surrounding greenery.

A Low-Maintenance Oasis

The project is tied together by low-maintenance landscaping, designed to thrive in the local climate without demanding hours of upkeep. The result is a clean, contemporary environment where the focus remains on relaxation and entertainment.
