Pool shapes and styles

You have made the decision to dive in and get a pool for your Melbourne home. When choosing a pool, the shape and style of the pool are some of the biggest factors that come into play. Chances are you would be familiar with the kidney or even rectangle shape, but believe it or not, there’s more!
Kidney – characterised by a long oval shape with an indentation on one side.
Rectangle – feature straight edges and sharp or rounded corners.
Freeform – have a more natural, irregular shape and can include features such as waterfalls or rocks.
Figure-8 – two interconnected circles, with one typically larger than the other and meeting in the middle.
L-shape – a traditional rectangular form with an additional shorter section that creates an ‘L’ shape.

Special design pools

If space is against you or you’re wanting something a little different, take a look at:
Infinity Pools– feature a vanishing edge that creates the illusion of the pool extending into the horizon.
Plunge – small and deep, a plunge pool is usually designed for relaxation and cooling off rather than swimming.
Lap pool – usually rectangle in shape and narrow in width, these are designed specifically for swimming laps.

Deciding which pool is for you

To choose the best pool shape for you and your family, you should consider:
• Space – how big your backyard is will be the biggest determining factor in what shape and size pool you can get. Sunsetter Pools can help you work out what will fit best.
• Use – are you looking for something fun and entertaining? Is it for fitness? Consider the activities and features you’ll use the pool for.
• Aesthetics – do you have a look you want to achieve? Is it about matching your home or garden or purely just for something different?
• Planning ahead – It’s hard to imagine one day being empty nesters or even selling your home, but it pays to think about the future use of the pool even when it’s only brand new! Consider designs that are versatile and will stand the test of time.
